The hardiest and most commonly grown fern in our area has deciduous light green foliage. It spreads by underground runners and is deer resistant. Cut back dead fronds in late winter before spring growth emerges. Southern wood fern can add texture to a shade garden throughout the year and is great for wetland areas.
