Garlic chives are a savory alternative to the more common onion-flavored variety. Their white flowers are a great bee magnet for pots and patios. Garlic chives can be differentiated from common chives primarily by their leaf shape. While regular chives have tubular leaves with an onion flavor, garlic chives have a wider, flat leaf that has a mild garlic flavor. They make a great aromatic finish to meats, poultry, soups, and sauces. They are also great stir fried or included in place of fresh garlic for milder flavor in dressings or dips. In addition to their culinary uses, garlic chives make a great dense ground cover.
